If Eagles win Super Bowl, Chris Long won't accept White House invitation

If the Philadelphia Eagles beat the New England Patriots on Sunday in the Super Bowl, it’s customary for the team to make a trip to the White House. Chris Long, an outspoken NFL player not afraid to share his political viewpoints, will not be going on any such trip if it is ever proposed.

Long, who won the Super Bowl last season with the Patriots, was asked by Pardon My Take about whether or not he would go on the trip. He responded in kind:

“No, I’m not going to the White House,” Long said. “Are you kidding me?”

Last year, Long also didn’t make the trip to the White House, and provided an explanation.

“My son grows up, and I believe the legacy of our president is going to be what it is,” Long said. “I don’t want him to say, ‘Hey dad, why’d you go (to the White House) when you knew the right thing was to not go?’”

It is worth noting, given the battle of optics between some NFL players and the 45th president, there could be -- at least in theory -- a chance a Super Bowl-winning team that isn’t fully embracing a certain type of politics might not be invited to the White House at all.

Thirty-four players attended the White House to meet with President Donald Trump after last year’s Super Bowl. While similar to the number George W. Bush received while in office, it was slightly down from when Barack Obama was president.

Of note, since they were the first NFL franchise to visit a Trump White House, Patriots owner Robert Kraft is a supporter, of the president, having donated $1 million to Trump’s inaugural celebrations.

Anyway, politics are always a touchy subject for people who prefer everyone to just stick to sports. That being said, fully expect more players to make their intentions be known, if not prior to the Super Bowl, then after it.

Tom Brady reportedly cuts short radio interview over remark about daughter

Tom Brady is reportedly re-evaluating his association with Boston sports radio station WEEI after a host on the station made a disparaging remark about his daughter last week.

>> Visit for the latest on this developing story

In a Friday night show, host Alex Reimer made the remark while discussing the Facebook Tom vs. Time docu-series. While talking about the show, Reimer called Brady’s 5-year-old “an annoying little [expletive]” during her time in the opening of the first episode.

Fans of Brady and the station condemned the remark on Twitter, but it apparently went mostly unaddressed by the station until Monday morning.

When Brady joined the Kirk and Callahan show for his weekly segment on the air, he reportedly cut his interview short and said he was disappointed to hear the news of the remark.

He also apparently said he is now reconsidering appearing on the show again

Brady recently signed a new contract with the show to make the appearances, and a host on Monday morning’s show said the station is "scrambling" to address the situation.

Tom Brady reportedly has stitches removed from hand

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady reportedly had his stitches removed from his injured throwing hand. This news came by way of Ian Rapoport:

Heading into the AFC Championship Game, speculation ran rampant after Brady injured his hand during a New England practice. Following the initial report that stated he did need stitches, one of the best gunslingers in the history of the sport decided to wear a glove to help conceal what most presumed to be a hideous injury.

He, in fact, did need stitches.

This is a pretty huge development for the Patriots, as it appears Brady will play in the Super Bowl at near full health.

It has been an interesting few weeks for the quarterback. Not only has a documentary called “Tom vs Time” debuted, but a nation found out that he will be the oldest non-kicker to play in a Super Bowl. He’s going to break a Super Bowl record previously held by San Francisco great Jerry Rice.

When Rice played in Super Bowl XXXVII for the Raiders he was 40 years and 105 days old while Brady will be 40 years and 185 days old. This is of course a record for non-kickers as just last year Atlanta’s Matt Bryant was 41 and Matt Stover was 42 when he kicked for the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.

As neat a story, Gisele Bündchen reportedly tried to convince Tom Brady to retire.

All the Brady news!

Anyway, at least Brady’s hand appears to be solid.

Deputies are still seeking the two women they believe drugged and robbed three men the weekend of the 2017 Pro Bowl.

When they got there, deputies said the woman took out several small liquor bottles from her purse and gave two of them to the victim to drink.

Deputies said the victim blacked out and woke up fully clothed with his watches, computer, cash and credits cards missing.

The woman is suspected in a similar incident on Jan. 30.

In that incident, the victim told deputies he met her in downtown Orlando and the two agreed to go back to his home where they had a few drinks.

The victim told deputies he passed out and the woman stole his $12,000 Rolex.

That victim, who did not want to be identified, told WFTV that he remembers very little of what happened the night he was robbed.

Deputies believe the woman spiked his drinks.

The woman was described as white with blonde hair, between 25 and 30 years old and has a teddy bear tattoo on her chest, a tattoo on her stomach that says “Greens for money,” a scorpion tattoo on her leg and a birthmark behind her right ear.

Both victims told deputies she spoke with a Southern accent.

In another incident on Jan. 27, deputies said a woman left an Orlando nightclub with Tennessee Titans player Quinton Spain and they went back to his hotel room. She is believed to have drugged and robbed him of a significant amount of jewelry.

He told deputies she was aggressively pursuing him, so he invited her back.

“He poured the first drink, then she poured the second drink and there must have been something in that second drink,” said Jane Watrel of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Spain was in Orlando for the Pro Bowl.

He told deputies he had had $113,000 worth of jewelry stolen.

Spain described the woman as light-skinned, with a Caribbean accent and between 28 and 35 years old.

Deputies have released surveillance pictures of both women.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information on the women’s whereabouts or information on the crime.

And the bakery has also found another way to show off its Pats pride before the big game.

"We've just banned all the Philadelphia cream cheese ... and any cream cheese products that come from there or have the name on it," bakery owner George Montilio said.

Montilio's isn't the only one banning certain products before next Sunday.

Dottie's Donuts in Philadelphia announced it won't sell any “New England themed” menu items until after the Super Bowl. A museum in Philadelphia has temporarily renamed its Patriots Gallery. And the Esplanade has banned all things Philly - including cream cheese, cheesesteaks, Sylvester Stallone and bald eagles.

The owner of Montilio's says he loves a friendly rivalry, and knows customers and fans feel the same way, Boston25News reported.

If you want to see what the bakers are working on - you'll have to head out to the Super Bowl send-off Monday morning.

The team's official injury report lists Brady as having a right-hand injury, something he has been dealing with for more than a week after sustaining it in practice while handing the ball off to running back Mike Gillislee.

Brady missed two days of practice with the injury before the AFC Championship game and wore a glove when speaking to the media to cover his stitches.

The injury did not appear to have a major impact on Brady during the game, and he played without the glove on his hand.

For the second day in a row, tight end Rob Gronkowski did not practice after suffering a concussion.

Saints’ Cam Jordan gives Super Bowl tickets to 108-year-old WWII vet

A 108-year-old World War II veteran and Saints fan is heading to Super Bowl LII, thanks to New Orleans defensive end Cam Jordan.

Jordan gave a pair of Super Bowl LII tickets to Lawrence Brooks, who was born Sept. 12, 1909, and served in the 91st Engineer Battalion during WWII, WGNO reported.

The Saints posted a video of Wednesday’s Facetime call between Brooks and Jordan on its Facebook page.

“We wish we would be in the Super Bowl, but honestly I think we have a great shot at it next year,” Jordan said. “I just wanted to say thank you for everything you did in military service back in your younger days.”

“I appreciate everything you do, too,” Brooks said. “And I want you to keep it up, keep it up, you hear?”

Brooks’ battalion, with a predominantly black roster, was stationed in New Guinea during WWII, WGNO reported. Brooks attained the rank of Private 1st Class during the war.

He worked as a forklift operator until he retired in 1974, WGNO reported. He was 95 years old when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, and he and his wife had to be rescued from the roof of their house by helicopter, WGNO reported.

On Feb. 4, Brooks will head to Minneapolis to watch the New England Patriots defend their Super Bowl title against the Philadelphia Eagles.  Brooks is more than twice as old as the Super Bowl and was 11 years old when the NFL was formed in 1920.

The Museum of the American Revolution announced it is renaming its first-floor Patriots Gallery, calling it the “Eagles Gallery” in honor of the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles, WPVI reported.

Anyone wearing Eagles gear who buys a ticket at the museum will get $2 off admission through Feb. 4.

The gallery features weapons, artifacts and paintings from the Revolutionary War era, WPVI reported. One of the paintings is a rare eyewitness work of the Continental Army.

Museum President Michael Quinn told The Associated Press that the Super Bowl is a perfect analogy for Philadelphia because like the colonists, the Eagles are the underdogs in this campaign.

The museum hung an "Eagles Gallery" sign Thursday above the entrance, WPVI reported. It will remain there until Super Bowl Sunday.

Food feud erupts between Philadelphia, Boston as Super Bowl approaches

There’s a food fight brewing between Philadelphia and Boston as both cities gear up for Super Bowl LII.

As the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots begin preparations for their Feb. 4 clash for the championship of the NFL in Minneapolis, restaurants in Philadelphia and Boston are added fuel to the rivalry. Dottie’s Donuts, a vegan shop in southwest Philadelphia, has stopped selling Boston cream doughnuts, CBS Philadelphia reported.

“We are not doing Boston cream right now, until after the Super Bowl,” employee Quinton Johnson said. Johnson told CBS Philadelphia that the doughnut shop began getting prank calls from Patriots fans after the Eagles clinched a Super Bowl berth Sunday.

Not to be outdone, Boston’s Esplanade Park said it was banning Philly cheesesteaks, soft pretzels and Philadelphia cream cheese, CBS Philadelphia reported. The Boston establishment is even banning Crisco, a dig at the Philadelphia police department’s tactic of greasing metal poles with the shortening to prevent fans from climbing them after the Eagles defeated the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL Championship game.

Dottie’s added “grease-pole pastries” to its menu.

“Just a long pole with vanilla grease and a little Matcha on top,” Johnson told CBS Philadelphia.

And as a substitute for the Boston cream doughnuts, Dottie’s is offering Eagles’ green-themed pistachio Matcha doughnuts.
