The Amancio-Falcone-Gaccione VFW Post 8955 to host this stunning documentary. Event to raise awareness of veterans’ transition issues and to benefit The Wounded Warrior Project. HIGH GROUND, a documentary about 11 wounded warriors and 1 Gold Star mother who climb a mountain in the Himalayas will be brought to town for a special event to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project on Saturday 25 May 2013, 1 PM at the Olde Mistick Village Art Cinemas 27 Coogan Boulevard, Olde Mistick Village, Building 18 Mystic, CT 06355. The film focuses on 11 veterans, who after serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, now live with life altering injuries, both seen and unseen. High Ground follows them as they train in Colorado, to Nepal, and up Mt. Lobouche. Along with recounting their wartime experiences, the veterans find teamwork, friendship, and healing on the journey. Almost all branches of the military are represented in High Ground, which also provides viewers with breathtaking vistas of the Himalayas. “High Ground is for the civilian who knows nothing about veterans, to the vet looking to see what others are doing as they transition into civilian life. We’re very excited to bring this event to Southern Rhode Island and Southeastern Connecticut.” HIGH GROUND was produced by Don Hahn (Lion King, Frankenweenie), and directed by five-time Everest climber, and three-time Emmy winner Michael Brown. High Ground has been shown at several film festivals and was the opener for the Heartland Film Festival. For ticket information please contact VFW Post 8955 Adjutant Dora Vasquez-Hellner, 401-212-6377.
