Hollywood legend Peter O’Toole has died.
A rep for the Irish-born star has confirmed that the Lawrence of Arabia, Venus and Goodbye Mr Chips, actor died peacefully in his sleep at a London hospital last night, aged 81.
O’Toole who was born in County Gallway, Ireland, received eight Oscar nominations and was awarded an honorary Academy Award in 2003.
He finally retired from acting last year and his daughter Kate released a statement about her father’s passing.
It read: “His family are very appreciative and completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of real love and affection being expressed towards him, and to us, during this unhappy time.
“Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts. In due course there will be a memorial filled with song and cheer, as he would have wished.”
He is survived by two daughters, Kate and Patricia, and a son Lorcan Patrick O’Toole.
