Jem gets a makeover

Old Jem (left) vs. New Jem (right)

By Dana DiDonato and Jeffrey Jameson

Young girls have always loved Barbie, but in 1985 there was a new, cool, plastic lady in town: Jem. The fictional lead singer of Jem and the Holograms was created by Hasbro and had her own cartoon series. "Jem" aired from 1985 to 1988 and featured animated music videos, new wave fashion, and positive messages for little ladies.

There's currently a major Jem resurgence, thanks to daily reruns on The Hub, and the character has becoming an increasingly popular Halloween costume. But old school fans want more! Hasbro has partnered with Integrity Toys on a new set of collectable dolls, which will hit store shelves in November.

The new dolls will cost $125 each, so sorry kids! These dolls are for collectors and die hard fans only.
