October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month & this past Friday was National Mammography Day! Mammograms help in early detection of breast cancer.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says early detection is the best defense in beating breast cancer.

Thanks to our friends at News 12 Long Island for the help in finding some places where low cost or free mammograms are offered. Women over 40 years old should get a mammogram, an X-ray of the breast tissue, every one to two years, according to American Cancer Society. The Affordable Care Act requires many health plans to cover mammograms for women over age 40, but if you don’t have private insurance, you can still get mammograms.
