Coyotes Now Breeding On Long Island

As if 2020 couldn’t get any weirder, it has! According to experts at the Long Island Coyote Study Group, eastern coyotes are now breeding on Long Island & that there is actual evidence of coyote couples raising their families in the suburbs, otherwise known as “territorial pairs that are successfully breeding.”

Over the past few years, a few coyotes have been spotted in parts of Queens & Suffolk County, but they are becoming more & more common.

“Coyotes are among the most resilient and adaptable animals in nature,” Mike Bottini from the Seatuck Environmental Association said. “They keep to themselves, stay out of the way, and rely on a diversity of natural food, including rodents, birds, insects, and plants. Coyotes will replace long-lost top predators and have a positive impact on our ecological health.”
