Pepperidge Farm wants young adults to know Goldfish crackers are something grown-ups eat too. So, here’s their latest marketing stunt . . .
They announced they’re temporarily rebranding Goldfish and changing the name to “Chilean Sea Bass.” (???) They posted a jokey ad calling them more “sophisticated” and “so adult.” (Here’s the ad and a photo.)
Don’t expect to see the new name in stores though. They’re only doing it on special “Limited Edition” bags. They’re selling a set amount each day for the next week at ChileanSeaBassCrackers.com.
Fun fact: When Goldfish crackers debuted in 1962, they were MEANT for adults, not kids. They marketed them as a new type of snack for bartenders to put out.
If you’re under 50, you might not know. But bars used to have free snacks, like pretzels and peanuts. The trend died out once people realized that everyone reaching into the same bowl was kinda gross.
