I think my cousin had a fever dream about this when she had the flu in ‘95 . . .
Airbnb’s latest odd offering is a supersized version of Polly Pocket that’s big enough to walk around in.
If you’re not familiar, Polly Pocket debuted in 1989. Each one was like a mini doll house shaped like a compact for make-up powder. Mattel still sells them.
For Polly’s 35th birthday, they built a version of her “Slumber Party Fun” compact from 1994 that’s the size of a house. It’s got multiple levels, including a living room at the bottom, and a kitchen on the top floor. And it all looks exactly like the pocket version. (Here are the photos.)
Starting August 21st, you’ll be able to book a one-night stay for you and four friends. But only one of you gets to sleep in the actual compact on a pull-out couch. The other four will be in a Polly Pocket-style tent. So . . . you’re camping.
They built it in the middle of the woods near the town of Littleton, Massachusetts. It costs $89 per person as a nod to the year Polly debuted.
It comes with a fridge and pantry stocked with ‘90s snacks . . . a selection of ‘90s movies on VHS . . . and a bunch of life-sized Polly Pocket clothes to try on.
They’re also doing day trips for fans who don’t score an overnight stay. You can snag a spot later this month by searching Airbnb for “Sleepover at Polly Pocket’s Compact”. (Airbnb) (Here’s a video.)
