Long Island is getting a serious dose of Hollywood this fall — and you may actually have a chance to catch some of the action.
Netflix is bringing its upcoming comedy Women Like Us to Shelter Island, with an all-star cast that includes Whoopi Goldberg, Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams and Vivica A. Fox. Michelle Obama is executive producing the film.
And this isn’t a quick one-day shoot.
150 cast and crew members are expected on Shelter Island from September 21 through October 1, with filming planned at several recognizable local spots. A casting notice also lists a September 22 production start date.
Where Could You Spot the Cast?
Filming is expected to take place primarily at The Pridwin Hotel & Cottages, while producers have also discussed shooting at Crescent Beach and the Sunset Beach Hotel. The South Ferry has also been mentioned as a possible filming location.
The Shelter Island Reporter says production vehicles are expected to park around Sunset Beach, with the Perlman Music Center discussed as possible overflow parking. Drones are also expected to capture shots of the women arriving and leaving the island.
Of course, there’s no guarantee you’ll actually run into Whoopi or the rest of the cast — and active sets should be given plenty of space — but Crescent Beach, The Pridwin and the Sunset Beach area the best places to watch once filming gets underway.
Netflix describes the movie as the story of a recently widowed woman whose lifelong best friends and sister bring her to the Hamptons on what would have been her 30th wedding anniversary.
And while the movie may be taking its characters to “the Hamptons,” Long Islanders will recognize at least some of that gorgeous scenery as Shelter Island.
So if you find yourself on the East End in late September and suddenly see cameras, production trucks — or maybe A-list celebs — now you know why.
