One of New York City’s most recognizable landmarks is preparing to close its doors for a very long renovation!
The legendary Plaza Hotel, famously featured in the 1992 holiday classic Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, will close in January 2027 for an extensive restoration expected to last at least four years.
According to reports, the hotel’s final day of service is scheduled for January 19, 2027, with restoration work beginning the following day.
The project will focus on repairing and preserving the building’s historic exterior. The closure will also affect the hotel’s 282 guest rooms, its famous Palm Court restaurant and event spaces.
First opened in 1907, The Plaza has become synonymous with New York City luxury, history and holiday magic. Movie fans will instantly recognize it as the hotel where Kevin McCallister checked in using his father’s credit card in Home Alone 2.
And with the restoration expected to take at least four years, the hotel may not reopen until 2031 or later. An official reopening date has not been announced.
That means Christmas 2026 will be the last holiday season at The Plaza before its extended closure!
If visiting The Plaza is on your NYC Christmas bucket list, this might be the year to make it happen!
