Belgium Hosts Contest To See Who Can Screech Like A Seagull The Best & We’re So Confused As To Why

Bizarre footage shows the first ever European Gull Screeching Championship where competitors have to do their best impression of a Seagull. The strange event in Adinkerke, Belgium, proved popular, with guests flocking from across Europe to take part. As the host announces the start of the tournament - with a banana dangling from the ceiling near his head - a rally of squawks ring out from the crowd.  Jan Seys from the Flanders Marine Institute said “People have come together to make the best imitation of the sound of a gull, which sounds quite stupid, but it is real science. Before you can really imitate a gull, you have to make nice observations otherwise you'll never make it.”  One man who was taking part added “It helps if you live on the coast, then you pick up the seagull screaming yourself.”  Extra points were given if you looked & acted like a Gull.  The final winners were Reggy Laatsch, 31, from Amsterdam and Bregje Iding, 21, from Hasselt in Belgium.  They won nothing but bragging rights & a basket of Belgian beers.
