Salute To Survivors: Georgette Keller’s Story

Survivor Day: Georgette Keller's Story

Georgette Keller, 56 from South Jamesport

Georgette is a Riverhead teacher who thought her life was over the moment she signed a consent form to be possibly be put on a ventilator which could put her in a coma because of COVID-19.

Georgette experienced shallow breathing, loss of taste, loss of smell, a blood pressure of 80 over 40 and an on and off 102 degree fever.

After 7 days of experiencing symptoms, Georgette went to the hospital for severe chest pains. The hospital brought her oxygen levels up, noticed she had good heart levels and broke her fever by taking about 5,000 milligrams of Tylenol per day. Georgette was discharged from the hospital but ended up back in the hospital for a second time when her fever eventually spiked up to 103.7 degrees.

While at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead the results of her chest X-ray showed complete pneumonia.

The medicine Georgette took was Tylenol and was put on Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) once her pneumonia was confirmed. Hydroxychloroquine made her throw up a lot. She was told to lay in the dark on her stomach. On Palm Sunday, she gave up on herself and turned to her faith. Georgette prayed  by herself and the next day her fever finally broke for good!

After a tiresome five and a half days in the hospital the second time she got to go home on Tuesday, April 7th!

She told Syke & MJ that this is “one insidious virus!”

Georgette plans to call the Long Island Blood Center to donate her plasma to help others with coronavirus.

Thank you Georgette for sharing your story with Syke & MJ in the Morning.
