Is this the greatest pizza innovation in a decade, or does it just sound gross?
A place in Japan is selling something called the “Ice Cream Fondue Pizza” . . . with a crust-bowl baked into the middle that holds VANILLA ICE CREAM. And they want you to dip your pizza in it.
It’s not a “dessert pizza.” It’s cheese, pepperoni, and mushrooms . . . with basically a bread-bowl in the center filled with Häagen-Dazs. (Here’s a photo.)
It costs $17 and comes with two even-sweeter toppings you can dump on it if you want . . . chocolate sauce and maple syrup. (???)
You can only get it in Japan, but dipping pizza in ice cream seems easy enough to try if you want to. (Has anyone tried it before, and is it good?)
The crust bowl in the middle seems like the true innovation here. But is ice cream really the best thing to put in there? Wouldn’t it melt?
It seems like other things would work better . . . marinara, ranch, garlic sauce, or even nacho cheese.
