Marking a decade since his last solo project, Bruno Mars is back with his heavily anticipated fourth studio album, The Romantic. The album is cohesive, intentional, nostalgic, and...romantic!
While it gives a nod to his 2021 collaborative album with Anderson .Paak, An Evening With Silk Sonic, he simultaneously breathes new life into it. Bruno masterfully blends soul and pop with Latin genres like boleros, mariachi, and salsa, wrapped in his signature old school sound.
The opening track on the album is “Risk It All”, which he released the music video on Thursday night. The visuals are colorful and vibrant, opening with a mariachi band and cinematic strings. This track, along with “Dance With Me” feels destined to be played at weddings for years to come. Without a doubt, both have the makings of future classics.
The album leans into ballads, fitting for its title. Lush romantic chord progressions and heartfelt lyrics reminiscent of the doo-wop era. Bruno does such a beautiful job painting a picture with his music. Listen to thealbum with your eyes closed and suddenly you’ll be transported to a dance floor beneath a disco ball, swaying side to side with the love of your life.
I’m not sure there has ever been an artist who can take you back in time the way Bruno does, while still making the music feel fresh.
He is truly an artist for the ages, and this album really spotlights that beautifully. Songs like “I Just Might” and “On My Soul” are instant feel-good standouts; funky, timeless, and effortlessly cool!
The Romantic will make you dance, reminisce, yearn, cry, smile, and dance again!
A love letter to the hopeless romantic in all of us.
