Long Island, your Sunday plans just got pretty legendary.
Darryl “DMC” McDaniels of the iconic hip-hop group Run-DMC is coming to The Cake Don in Huntington this Sunday, August 16, for an afternoon of food, music, art, local vendors and a live performance.
The Cake Don is turning its Huntington location at 605 West Jericho Turnpike into a massive Long Island block party from noon to 4 p.m.
And yes — DMC himself is expected to perform live!
A Hip-Hop Legend on Long Island
If you need a reminder of just how big this is, DMC is one of the founding members of Run-DMC, the legendary group formed in Queens that helped bring hip-hop into the mainstream.
Run-DMC became the first rap act to earn gold, platinum and multi-platinum records, the first rap group to appear on MTV and the first to receive a Grammy nomination. Their groundbreaking catalog includes classics like “It’s Tricky,” “My Adidas,” “King of Rock” and their genre-changing collaboration with Aerosmith, “Walk This Way.” The group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.
Now, Long Islanders will have the chance to see DMC right here in Huntington.
What to Expect at the Block Party
The event is being billed as a celebration of food, dessert, art, music and pop culture, with DMC’s appearance and live performance serving as the finale.
A number of local food vendors have already been announced, including:

- Island Fizz
- Pizza Passeggio
- Royal Elite BBQ
- Angie’s Empanadas
- Moe’s Flavors
Organizers say even more vendors, artists and surprises will be announced leading up to the event.
The event is designed for families and friends to come out, grab something to eat, shop local businesses, enjoy music and see a performance from one of hip-hop’s most influential artists.
