If you’re the kind of Long Islander who needs coffee before you can even deal with the LIE, Starbucks has something new for you today. For National Coffee Day, Starbucks is rolling out the Aerocano, a new iced espresso drink that sounds like somebody got bored at the coffee shop and said, “What if we… WHIP IT?”
It’s basically a twist on an iced Americano, made with Blonde Espresso and ice — but then the espresso is air-whipped, creating a light, velvety foam and this cool cascading effect in the cup. Starbucks says the drink was inspired by a coffee that became popular in South Korea.
And here’s the part that could divide Long Island: there’s no milk or cold foam required. It’s supposed to be smooth and creamy from the aeration while still giving you that strong, straight-up coffee flavor. PEOPLE actually tried it and described the texture as silky and the coffee flavor as bold enough that they didn’t feel the need to add creamer.
So this morning, while somebody is sitting in traffic on the LIE, somebody else is fighting for a parking spot at the Smith Haven Starbucks, and somebody is screaming because the person in front of them ordered 14 TikTok drinks… there’s a brand-new coffee in town.
The Aerocano officially hits Starbucks today — because apparently regular iced coffee wasn’t complicated enough anymore.
