Sofar veteran Car Astor has played at some DC and NYC shows, but this was her first Sofar appearance on Long Island, where she also calls home. Car was thirteen when she began her music journey. She started as a drummer for a band until she was eighteen. From there, Car went solo, recorded an EP and signed with a label. Previously known as See in the music industry, Car recently changed her name to match the changes in her personality. Car Astor most recently released a single and created, shot, and directed the music video to it. Talk about a triple threat. Songs to check out are “Girlfriend,” “Potions,” and “Spaces.”

Caitlin Mahoney is also a SoFar vet and played all across the world, in cities like NYC and Brooklyn, Portland, Sacramento and London. Caitlin is originally from Florida, and moved to Brooklyn a few years ago. She has released three albums and toured Europe three times. Her most recent record, “Story Still Left to Be Told,” is meant to celebrate and highlight women. Caitlin wanted to include as many female artists as she could on this record, and collected as many female musicians, producers, and engineers as she could to create it. One single from the album, “Burn the Book,” inspired the Burn the Book Project, where women wrote essays about the boxes society told them they needed to fit in. A sketchbook of the essays is available to be viewed at the Brooklyn Art Library. Songs of Caitlin Mahoney to check out are “Kept Women,” “Surface Level,” and “So I Go.”

AJ Smith moved to New York City in 2009 to pursue his music career. He attended NYU for his undergraduate and graduate degrees in songwriting and film scoring. He played many instruments, including the piano and the violin, and was a Young Associate to the National Symphony Orchestra. AJ Smith is extremely versatile, though, and also played drums in a pop punk and screamo band. AJ Smith’s current music has a singer-songwriter feel. Smith also is running a one-man band up on the stage, playing guitar, singing, and running loops of electronic beats on his computer. AJ Smith toured with a band his last time around, but has been teaching himself how to loop music so it can be just him on stage. AJ Smith’s goal is to be sponsored by Kleenex so that at his shows, fans can receive a free packet of tissues with his face on them to use when they cry to the sad songs. Songs to check out are “Wildfire,” “Die For Your Love,” and “Brooklyn Nights.”
