On Monday, 31-year-old Charli Jones Parker was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to one charge of having sex with a student under the age of 19, AL.com reports. Parker was arrested in March; a few days later, her husband, Jamie, was taken in on nine counts of the same charge.

At the time of her arrest, Parker was still a gym teacher and head girls’ basketball coach at Pickens Academy in Carrollton. She faced 13 charges and was able to enter a plea deal to bring it down to one charge.

While Parker was sentenced to 12 years in prison, she reportedly will only have to serve three years, followed by a five-year probation. She was ordered not to have any contact with the students, the New York Daily News reported.

Court papers allege that Parker had sex with the male students “at least 11 times” from October 2014 and March 2016. A deposition in the case accused her of “deviant sexual intercourse” and oral sex. Some of the encounters reportedly occurred at Graham Cemetery in Reform, Alabama.

Parker’s lawyer pushed for the postponement of the sentencing until after an appeal of Alabama’s teacher-student sex law. In early August, a judge in northern Alabama ruled the law unconstitutional — a ruling that led to the dismissal of charges against two employees caught having sex with students. Parker entered her plea on Aug. 15 but did reserve her right to appeal if the constitutionality of her case should be overturned. Her husband’s trial is set for Nov. 27.

Deputies arrested James Parker, 32, on one count of being a school employee and having sex with a student on Wednesday afternoon, according to PBSO. Two days earlier, deputies had arrested Parker's wife, Charli, on the same charge.

Both work at Pickens Academy in Carrollton. On the school's website, James Parker was listed as a math teacher and the boys' basketball coach.

James Parker works as the school's boys' basketball and football coach and teaches math. Charli Parker was listed as head coach for the girls' basketball team and taught physical education, computers and elementary school, according to AL.com. She was no longer listed on the school's website Wednesday.

James Parker was accused of having sex with a former female student, the Trussville Tribune reported. He remained in custody at Pickens County Jail Wednesday night.

Authorities released Charli Parker, 30, on bond Tuesday afternoon, jail records show.

According to WCBI, prosecutors have tacked on an additional 10 counts against Charli Parker, who is accused of having sex with a male student.

The incidents involving Charli Parker did not take place on school grounds, according to prosecutors. Officials have not commented on where the incident involving James Parker took place.

In a statement to AL.com after Charli Parker's arrest, Pickens Academy Headmaster Brach White said she would be suspended immediately.

“The primary concern of Pickens Academy is the safety of our students,” he wrote. “Pickens Academy is very upset about the allegations against our employee. The employee will be suspended immediately and further action may be taken upon investigation. I request prayers for our school family and for all the families involved.”

Two Alabama teachers accused of having sex with students had their charges dismissed by a judge who declared the state’s teacher-student sex law unconstitutional.

Morgan County Circuit Judge Glenn Thompson issued the ruling Thursday that, at least for now, will keep former Decatur High School teacher Carrie Witt and David Solomon, an ex-aide at Falkville High School, from facing charges.

According to AL.com, Witt, 44, was arrested in March 2016 when police said she had sex with two teenagers — one who was 17 and the other 18 — when they were her students at Decatur High School. Solomon, 27, was accused of having sex with a 17-year-old student.

The law the judge has deemed unconstitutional prohibits any school employees from having sex with students who are younger than 19. Teachers or other school employees in violation of the law can be charged with a Class B felony that carries a punishment up to 20 years in prison. They must also register as sex offenders if convicted. Consent is not a defense.

However, the law is harsher on teachers and school employees than other citizens, who do not face criminal prosecution for having sex with 16-year-olds. State prosecutors, AL.com reported, have argued the law is constitutional and designed to protect students.

Laura Lynn Cross, 36, has been indicted on three counts of sexual battery over a period allegedly spanning from Aug. 1, 2013, through Sept. 6, 2016. She was a teacher at Buchtel High School in Tallmadge, Ohio, just outside Akron.

The boy’s father told WEWS that he first went to Buchtel High School officials and Tallmadge police about the teacher in 2012, when his son was a freshman. But he said no charges were filed.

“First of all, she’s a schoolteacher,” the boy’s father said. “To get aroused by a child, basically, you have to be a sick individual.”

Cross quit teaching at the school in January 2015.

WEWS reported that Cross apparently convinced the boy’s mother, who had custody of her son, to allow the teen to move in with Cross through a court-approved “partial parental custody” arrangement. She reportedly convinced the mother that she could “mentor” the boy.

Charges weren’t filed, however, until police learned that Cross and the boy allegedly had a baby together in 2015, WEWS reported. The boy’s father knew nothing about that until a tipster phoned him and asked him if he knew he was a grandfather, he said in the WEWS interview.

An Akron School System spokesperson said the district was unaware of the case until a WEWS investigation alerted them, but said officials are now “doing [their] own internal investigation going back to 2012 to determine what exactly happened and when it happened.”

Cross has been jailed, and her bond has been set at $100,000.

Ex-'teacher of the year' gets 10 years in prison for hosting teen sex parties

A former Texas teacher accused of hosting teen sex parties has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

According to the San Antonio Express-News, Jared Anderson, 29, was still a new teacher at Judson High School near San Antonio when he was arrested last year after authorities caught wind of allegations that he was hosting sex parties for teen boys at his home. Anderson also was a local church leader, and, according to a San Antonio police spokesman, the incidents were first reported to church officials, who then called Child Protective Services. KSAT reported in March 2016, when Anderson was first arrested, that seven teens were interviewed, and all of them “gave statements about the illegal and lewd activities.”

On Tuesday, Anderson appeared in court and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual performance by a child and two counts of indecency with a child by exposure. According to the Express-News, the former teacher could have been sentenced to 20 years in prison, but his lawyer negotiated a plea deal. Anderson’s attorney also reportedly asked the judge to consider probation, but that request was denied.

According to KSAT, San Antonio Police Department spokesman Jesse Salame said in March 2016 that the teacher “hosted several sex parties.” Police said Anderson called one of the parties, which occurred on Feb. 12, 2016, “Bro’s Night.” Salame also said the events “involved anywhere from seven to 12 boys, ranging in ages from 15 to 17, maybe one or two 18-year-olds."

According to WOAI, Anderson even had a sign on the door reading, “The last one to strip naked loses.”

Police have not said whether or not the boys were students at Judson High School.

When investigators confronted Anderson, he admitted to the allegations and claimed that he’d apologized to the parents of the teens via text message, police said.

Anderson reportedly taught English at the high school for roughly a year. When his crimes came to light, school officials were forced to recall yearbooks to remove the page naming Anderson as “teacher of the year.”

KSAT reported that neighbors were taken aback by the allegations. One man who lives near Anderson said, “He’s always out playing with his wife and kids and the other neighbors’ kids."
