According to the Orange County Register, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau got a call on Monday about a “suspicious device” that was seen floating in the water. The call was placed by a boater off the coast of Dana Point.

According to KTLA, once on scene, a large metal torpedo with military markings was found drifting in the current.

The LASD bomb squad along with the Orange County bomb squad and the United States Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians worked together to recover the torpedo from the water, according to KTLA.

A few hours later, the crews were able to safely remove the torpedo from the water and were able to get it onto a boat, according to KTLA.

LASD told KTLA that the torpedo was an inert device that was used for military training. The device was turned over to the Navy technicians who will be handling its disposal.
