The women, who were helping two men who had crashed on an interstate highway, were instead carjacked and forced to drive the men more than 40 minutes south to Tampa, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

Troopers said the women, from Jacksonville, stopped at about 7:30 a.m. EDT in Hernando County to help the men, who were driving a black 2021 Nissan Sentra with Oklahoma plates and had hit a guardrail, WTVT reported. The driver of the Sentra had lost control of the vehicle, which came to a stop in the middle of Interstate 75, according to WFTS.

That was when things got scary.

The men confronted the women with a shotgun and ordered them to drive to an address in northern Tampa, WFTS reported. After dropping the men off, the women reported the incident to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

The mother and daughter were shaken up but were unhurt, the FHP said.

“They were confronted by these two men with a shotgun,” FHP spokesperson Sgt. Steve Gaskins told WTVT. “Very scary, indeed.”

Anyone with knowledge of the event or suspects is asked to contact the FHP by calling 813-558-1800 or *FHP, or Tampa Bay Crime Stoppers at 800-873-TIPS.
