ONTARIO, Calif. — The coronavirus pandemic has affected the way people live their lives in so many ways. But not even COVID-19 could prevent a California couple from reciting their vows.

After changing their wedding venue and guest list three times, Patrick Delgado and Lauren Jimenez were set to get married Nov. 20. Then Jimenez tested positive for COVID-19 and was quarantined to her bedroom, KABC reported.

”It’s no joke, COVID is not fun,” Jimenez told the television station.

Cancellation appeared imminent, but with their marriage license set to expire on their wedding day and county offices closed, the couple forged ahead.

Jimenez wore her wedding dress and stayed in the second-story window of her family home in Ontario while Delgado remained outside, KTLA reported. Instead of Rapunzel letting down her hair, Jimenez tossed out a rope made by her aunt so the bride and groom could remain connected during the ceremony.

”As soon as the ceremony was over, I was back in bed,” Jimenez told KABC.

“It was the most 2020 wedding I have ever shot during COVID-19,” Jessica Jackson, the wedding photographer, told NBC News.

The couple had been together four years and got engaged on May 24, 2019, according to “Good Morning America.”

“We were cautious throughout the entire time, making sure that we always wore our masks everywhere,” Degaldo, 27, told KTLA. “When she got that positive test result, I’ll be honest, it took a massive toll on her.”

After spending 10 days in isolation, the newlyweds were able to get closer for the first time. They are hoping to renew their vows and have a big party on their one-year anniversary, KTLA reported.

“I always dreamt of getting married,” Jimenez told the television station. “I never expected this is how it would turn out.”

“At the end of the day, it’s just about us,” Delgado told KABC.
