Daniel Joseph Morozewicz, of Frederick, was arrested Friday while serving at the Six Flags coronavirus vaccination clinic in Bowie, Maryland, The Washington Post reported. He was charged with one count of child pornography, the newspaper reported.

He is suspended with pay from his job at the Rockville City Police Department for an unrelated personnel matter, according to WUSA. Morozewicz has worked for the Rockville Police Department since July 2013 and was suspended in October, police spokesperson Andrea Escher told the Post. She declined to say why he was suspended.

The case was investigated by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigation special agents, WDVM reported.

During a joint investigation, which was part of the Internet Crimes Against Children unit, authorities said that between Sept. 8 and Dec. 30, 2020, Morozewicz was suspected of downloading images and videos of nude underage females engaging in explicit acts, the television station reported.

On Feb. 23, 2021, the U.S. District Court of Maryland issued a federal search warrant for the suspect’s home and vehicle.

On Friday, detectives obtained evidence from Morozewicz’s residence after obtaining a federal search warrant, WDVM reported. Upon investigation of the evidence, law enforcement placed him under arrest.

Morozewicz, a corporal in the Maryland National Guard who has been with the unit since February 2015, had been assigned to the 1st Battalion of the 175th Infantry Regiment, the Post reported. He has been removed from active duty, Maj. Kurt M. Rauschenberg, a National Guard spokesperson, told the newspaper.

“The Maryland National Guard takes these situations seriously and will cooperate with law enforcement agencies as needed,” Rauschenberg said.

“We are looked at in the community, in the public eye, as trusted members of the community,” Frederick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Todd Wivel told WRC. “So, when somebody goes out and does something like this, it automatically makes them lose trust in, you know, that person, and just makes them question exactly what their motives are and what they’re doing.”

Morozewicz was booked at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, paid a $5,000 bail and was released on his own recognizance, WRC reported.
