‘NYPD Blue’ former child star Austin Majors dies at age 27

Austin Majors, a former child star best known for his role on “NYPD Blue,” has died at the age of 27.

Majors, whose real name is Austin Setmajer-Raglin, reportedly died on Saturday. His sister, Kali Majors-Raglin, confirmed the news to CNN.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Majors’ family released a statement sharing that he took joy and pride in his career.

“From the time he was little, he never knew a stranger and his goal in life was to make people happy. He grew up in a small town where he loved camping and fishing with his family and Boy Scout Troop. He loved his dog, Sunny, and the horse he grew up riding, Balla,” the statement said according to Entertainment Weekly.

Majors’ sister said in the statement, according to the Hollywood Reporter, that she enjoyed growing up on set with him and volunteering at events.

Majors was born on Nov. 23, 1995. He studied film and television production at the University of Southern California.

Majors made his first appearance on screen in 1997 in the film, “Nevada.” According to the Hollywood Reporter, he also appeared in the movie “The Price of Air,” and the show “Providence.”

His best-known role was as the son of Detective Andy Sipowicz (Dennis Franz) in the television series “NYPD Blue” from 1999 to 2004. In 2002, he won a Young Artist Award for best performance in a television series for his role.

Other roles included appearances in “ER,” “Hercules,” “NCIS,” “Threshold,” “Desperate Housewives,” “An Accidental Christmas,” and “How I Met Your Mother,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Majors’ cause of death remains under investigation according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office.
