A Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputy saw Crystal Briley speeding and swerving outside of her lane round 5:15 a.m. She pulled over, and when the deputy approached her truck, he detected the overwhelming smell of fresh marijuana, officials said.

“Briley was extremely nervous during the interaction and deceptive when answering questions,” investigators said. “Based on the odor and Briley’s behavior, the deputy believed she was involved in some type of illicit drug activity.”

Investigators said she denied there were illegal drugs in the vehicle and did not give consent for a search, KPHO reported. The deputy called for a drug detection K9. The K9 alerted to the smell of drugs while conducting a free air search, WOIO reported.

Deputies then searched the truck and found 8,000 fentanyl pills, 280 pounds of marijuana and four pounds of cocaine, officials said. Briley denied it was hers.

Briley, 39, was arrested and charged with possession and transportation of marijuana for sale, possession of a narcotic drug and narcotic drug for sale, investigators said. She was being held on $500,000 bond.
