‘Super Mario Bros.’ animated film will be voiced by all-star cast

The upcoming “Super Mario Bros.” animated film will include an all-star voice cast, led by Chris Pratt as the Nintendo character.

The film will be released in North America on Dec. 21, 2022, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

According to Variety, Pratt, who will voice Mario, will be joined by Charlie Day, who will play Luigi, as the two Italian plumbers battle foes made famous in the beloved Nintendo video game. Anya Taylor-Joy will voice Princess Peach, Jack Black will be featured as the villainous Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key will play Toad and Seth Rogen will voice Donkey Kong. Fred Armisen will be the voice of Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson will play Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco will voice Spike.

The “Super Mario Bros.” film will be produced by Nintendo and Illumination, with Universal distributing in North America and co-financing with Illumination, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Its international rollout will be announced at a later date.

Nintendo shared the news during Thursday’s Nintendo Direct presentation.

“Mario and Luigi are two of the most beloved heroes in all of popular culture, and we are honored to have the unique opportunity to work so closely with Shigeru Miyamoto and the widely imaginative team at Nintendo to bring these characters to life in an animated movie, unlike any film Illumination has made to date,” Chris Meledandri of Illumination said in a statement.
