WASHINGTON — A special officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., was on duty when she was shot and killed in an apartment complex earlier this week, authorities said.

According to WJLA and WUSA, the incident occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on 10th Place Southeast. Police arrived to find Special Officer Angela Washington, 41, of Suitland, Maryland, with a gunshot wound, the news outlets reported. The officer, a mother of four, later died.
Police, who are searching for a white Toyota Camry spotted on nearby Wheeler Road, have not announced any arrests in connection with the case, according to the news outlets. No further details were immediately available.
